Stand Up Speaking Skills

Stand Up Speaking Skills is a focused one-hour class that gives children a simple, reliable way to use their voice-especially in moments when they would usually freeze or stay silent. Instead of telling kids to "just speak up," we teach a step-by-step tool they can follow, even when they feel nervous.
Children practice each step through realistic scenarios: asking a teacher a question, responding to teasing, sharing an idea in a group, or telling a coach they feel overwhelmed. We slow everything down, model the language, and then give them safe practice until the words start to feel natural.
At the heart of this session is our C L E A R framework:
C
Calm body
L
Look at the person
E
Explain how you feel
A
Ask for what you need
R
Repeat or ask for help
Throughout the class, we stress that speaking up does not mean being rude, loud, or dramatic. It means being clear and respectful-of themselves and of others. This distinction matters for children who worry about "getting in trouble" if they say what they need.
Parents and educators often notice changes quickly: more eye contact, clearer sentences, and a child who is able to state, "I feel... and I need..." instead of shutting down or exploding. Stand Up Speaking Skills can be taken on its own or paired with our Confidence Matters Program for deeper mindset development. It is ideal for shy children, those facing peer pressure, and any young person who has important ideas but struggles to let others hear them.
